FYI – these are fried dough or “doughboys”. They are nothing like traditional zeppole which are a puffed pastry filled with boiled cream. If the recipe were called fried dough, I would give it 5 stars.

In Rhode Island we filled the Zeppoles with riccotta cheese filling and top with whipped cream . You only get around 3-19or St Joseph Day.

I tried this recipe last year for a party. And while I was making them I didnt really like the taste. So instead of powedered sugar on it I put the Zeppoles in a bag of cinnanmon sugar after they were done frying. Everyone loved them and they were delicious!
