Yield: 4 to 6 servings

Ingredients

  1. 3 pounds boneless pork shoulder, cut into large chunks
  2. 3 teaspoons kosher salt
  3. 2 teaspoons freshly cracked black pepper
  4. 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  5. 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  6. 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  7. 1 cup apple juice
  8. 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  9. 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  10. Chopped fresh parsley, for serving
  11. Dinner rolls, for serving

Instructions

  1. Add the pork, salt, pepper, garlic powder, cumin and paprika to a 6-quart slow cooker. Toss to combine, then pour in the apple juice. Cover with the lid and let cook for 8 hours on low, or until the pork is easily shreddable.
  2. Remove the pork from the juices to a serving dish and shred with forks or fingers.
  3. Add the butter to a small skillet over medium heat and let melt. Whisk in the flour until combined, about 1 minute. Add 1 cup drippings from the slow cooker and whisk until thickened. Taste for seasoning. Drizzle over the pork or transfer to a serving dish. Serve the pork warm with warm gravy and a sprinkle of chopped parsley. Eat with the dinner rolls.

This was delicious! A nice change from bbq. Since I’m cooking for just me, I used a couple of boneless country style ribs and cooked in a 300 degree oven with all of the ingredients called for. It took about 2 1/2 hours. I did use chicken stock rather than apple juice (didn’t have on hand). I made with garlic mashed potatoes and roasted carrots. I could have eaten the gravy alone with a spoon. It’s a keeper!

This was my first attempt at a pulled pork meal. It was a winner! The gravy… not so much. But I think I did something wrong. So, I’m not going to judge it.
UPDATE: attempted the gravy again. And it was delicious. Everyone loved it. So, yeah, first time I messed up somewhere. This time, was a winner and so easy.

It was delicious. I didn’t have apple juice so I used vegetable broth. Pork was very tender and flavorful. Gravy was delicious. I made garlic mashed potatoes to go with it. My grandsons loved it. I will definitely make this again.

Delicious! 8lb pork butt, followed the recipe, increased the seasoning accordingly and it turned out perfect! Served with the gravy and mashed potatoes.

So tender and juicy! And easy!! I would maybe use a little less salt next time but gave me an excuse to eat more hawaiian rolls. I did check on it a couple times to mix it around in the slow cooker, and it was super tender after 7 hours so didn’t need the full 8 in the recipe. Would definitely make again.

Omg, this maybe the best pulled pork I have ever made and I have made alot. Thank you Trisha !!!!

I saw Trisha make this on her show this morning and just had to make it!  It was incredible!!!  My Boston Butt was 5 lb, but it still worked.  I cooked on “high” as didn’t have 10 hrs to cook on “low” in my crockpot.  I worried it wouldn’t be as tender being I cooked it faster, but it was falling off the bone and so easy to pull apart w/forks!  The only thing I did different, & realize it’s an extra step, but I always brown my roasts on each side first in some hot oil in the pan before roasting in the oven or crockpot.  It gives it so much more flavor too!  I used what oil was left from browning it to make the gravy Trisha made w/the drippings from the cooked meat in the crockpot.  Be sure & drain any fat before using the juice to make the gravy.  I will definitely make again!  Hubby loved it too!!!
