Classic Margarita with Espelette Salt

Ingredients

  1. 1/4 cup coarse salt
  2. 1 teaspoon espelette pepper or chile powder
  3. 1 teaspoon sugar
  4. 2 cups fresh lime juice, plus more for rimming glasses
  5. 3 cups tequila
  6. 1 1/2 cups orange liqueur
  7. 1/2 cup agave syrup
  8. Lime slices, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Combine the salt, pepper and sugar on a plate. Lightly dip the rims of 4 rocks glasses into a small amount of lime juice, then into the salt mixture to crust the edges of the glasses.
  2. Combine the tequila, lime juice, orange liqueur and agave syrup in a large pitcher with ice. Stir vigorously to combine. Pour over ice in the salt-rimmed glasses, garnish with a slice of lime and serve immediately.
