Ingredients

  1. 1 cup grated Gruyere cheese (about 3 ounces)
  2. 1 cup deli-sliced ham, chopped (about 4 ounces)
  3. 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
  4. 1/8 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  5. Pinch of cayenne pepper
  6. Vegetable oil, for brushing
  7. All-purpose flour, for dusting
  8. 1 (11-ounce) tube refrigerated French bread dough
  9. 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. Mix the gruyere, ham, mustard, nutmeg and cayenne in a bowl until combined. Squeeze the mixture together with your hands to make it compact.
  2. Brush a baking sheet lightly with vegetable oil. On a floured surface, roll out the dough and fill the dinner pockets (see Cook’s Note).
  3. Place the pockets seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet. Beat the egg and 1 tablespoon water in a small bowl; brush the pockets with the egg wash. Bake until golden brown, about 15 minutes.

Yum, yum and more yum! Next time I’ll definitely try the tips for making the dough easier to work with.

I found the best way to work with the dough was to let the tube sit out and warm up to room temperature before working with it.

The dough was a little tough to work with, but they turned out so well, I get regular requests for these at family meals! Thanks again food network!

Dough was hard to work with but then again I didnt have a pen at hand. Turned out wonderful! couldnt find the monsier cheese at two of our stores so we used coby jack and still tasted great! Will be doing them again soon.

I was very frustrated with the dough. So much so that I threw it all out! Maybe I will try again with the tip on the cooking spray.

These were great with the gruyere cheese! I will definitely make these again. They worked pretty well as leftovers too.

Loved them! I used swiss because it’s what I had in the fridge and they still tasted delicious. I made them in the morning and packed them up for our adventure in the Richardson Corn Maze. It took us 2 hours to complete but thanks to these tasty sandwiches we never went hungry!

Very easy and comforting. It was a challenge at first to get the dough to roll out as thinly as required. Once I added a little cooking spray to my work area and got some traction with the dough it was easy. I served with a lobster bisque from Costco. For the price and ease of pizza , I got a french bistro. Thanks for an easy, tasty recipe.
