Good as is.

Excellent. On a few batches, I added a bit of nutmeg or vanilla for variety. All good.

Great applesauce . Planning on getting some apples direct from farm and making again. This would also make a great apple pie .

Simple to make. After I cooked the apples, I used my Ninja on pulse to make it creamy. Wonderful flavor and texture. The only change I made was to only make half of the receipt.

Terrible. Worst thing I’ve ever made. Only giving one star because I can’t give zero!! Bitter, acidic, terrible!!

rough chopped the (green) apples, eyeballed the apple juice- almost covering the apples; brown sugar, cinnamon and all spice to taste. mashed away, so good, and so easy.

This is very nice. The cider gives it an edge that most other recipes don’t have. This makes lovely, sweet dessert. Thank you for the recipe.

We made our first batch yesterday in the crock pot, with a mix of Macintosh and gala. We added a little cloves per other comments. I might have added just a touch too much cider. We’re making a second batch today and I’ve cut back on the cider and will keep an eye on it for the first hour or so. We were very pleased with this recipe and agree with many of the reviewers that homemade is so much tastier than commercially processed! We plan on freezing a few containers out of today’s batch. Thank you for posting this recipe.

Easy to make and delicious. Used Red Jacket Apple Cider. It was easier to first break down the apples using a pastry cutter, and finishing with a potato masher which left it slightly chunky. Far better than any commercial applesauce. A handy side when grilling.

This applesauce was so easy and so good. My husband loved it! I used a little less sugar and topped with brown sugar. I will make this again!

Best applesauce recipe. Didn’t change a thing and it was amazing!

This tastes soooo good that I’m NEVER buying store bought applesauce ever again! I had made some apple cider with ground cloves, brown sugar, cinnamon sticks, and Orange peels that had simmered in my crock pot for 48 hrs prior to making this recipe. I saved about a cup and half of the cider & from there, I sliced up 8 medium honey crisp apples then just added them to my crock pot. Cooked on low for 4.5 hours. Then “keep warm” for 5 hours. I let the apples just sit there so the juices could meld & omg, u gotta try it this way! One bite tastes like the perfect fall pick me up. I drained my apples & whisked them with a little more brown sugar (to taste). I like a chunky style but this could be whisked to a smoother consistency. If you like sweet applesauce, use honey crisp apples for this recipe. You will not regret this!!

Made exactly as the recipe said. Best ever!

It’s going to be a favourite! I looked for something that doesn’t have too much sugar in it, but still tastes great. This recipe is amazing!

Make it for a up coming dinner.

Wonderful recipe! I added in a heaping teaspoon of cinnamon, a 1/4 tsp. of ginger, 1/4 tsp. of nutmeg, and about 1/8 of ground cloves! I never knew how easy it would be to make homemade applesauce!

This was simple and delicious. I made with a variety of apples from a local orchard. Some were softer varieties and others were harder varieties which made for a nice chunky sauce. I doubled the recipe, but really wish I would have had enough apples to triple or quadruple.

I loved this applesauce and I made 3 crockpots full with the apples I had. Went to my local farm and asked if they had “seconds” of their apples from their orchard. They came back with a huge bag of “seconds” which were just slightly bruised or just not pretty enough to sell. I tell you I had at least 40-50 apples of quite a few varieties and there was nothing wrong with them….AND the best part is that is was only $10 for the bag! I did reduce the brown sugar to 1/4c and the cider to 3/4 c. I did jar and process the applesauce as I wanted to keep it in my pantry and gift it to others. Thank you for an awesome recipe as I have never used brown sugar and cider before in applesauce. Way better than white sugar and water. Thanks!

I remembered my grandmother making applesauce, with me in tow. I have been trying to remember how she did it. This recipe comes the closest. I did not have apple cider (wrong season-Spring). I used Macintosh apples, brown sugar, a dash of nutmeg, and an ingredient I forgot I had. Cane syrup. That really stepped up the flavor a notch! I read in one of the other reviews that someone used an immersion blender. i used that and it worked wonderfully!! My grandmother’s applesauce was always pink, so I did not peel the apples. Love this basic recipe!

The best! All of my family loves it. Using apple cider (Honeycrisp apple cider is fantastic) instead of water like most recipes makes all the difference! I use a little less lemon juice than called for. This is THE recipe for us. I simply quarter the apples (no peeling or coring), cook till soft (takes longer than 20 min.), cool in fridge, then send through food strainer/food mill. Yum!

Wonderful recipe Doug! I’ve made this several times now and plan to make it many more. I’ve used regular apple juice, and it’s still fantastic. I puree it in the blender when it’s done cooking.
