Yield: 6 to 8 servings (about 45 meatballs)

Ingredients

  1. 2 pounds ground turkey
  2. 3 stalks celery, grated
  3. 3 cloves garlic, grated
  4. 1 small onion, grated
  5. 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  6. 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  7. 1 1/2 cups frozen mango
  8. 1 cup barbecue sauce
  9. 3/4 cup agave
  10. 1/4 cup soy sauce
  11. 3 habanero peppers, sliced
  12. Sliced green onions, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with foil.
  2. Put the turkey in a bowl and add the celery, garlic, onion, salt and pepper. Mix well and scoop into golf ball-size meatballs. Place them onto the prepared baking sheet as you go. Bake until cooked through and browned, 15 to 17 minutes.
  3. Meanwhile make the sauce. Add the mango, barbecue sauce, agave, soy sauce and habanero peppers to a saucepan with 1/2 cup of water and stir. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes to thicken slightly and enhance the heat of the peppers. Puree with an immersion blender or use a food processor.
  4. Toss the meatballs with the sauce until well coated. Place on a serving platter and garnish with the sliced green onions.

These were fantastic and quick to make. My kids had at least three other uses for the delicious sauce. This is definitely on our favorites list.

Meatballs are very good they are moist , I left out the celery not a fan of it. The sauce is delicious and combining the meatballs made it the best. I will make again

Theses were really good! Easy to make, moist and tender. I substituted 1 jalapeño for the habaneros in the BBQ sauce. Will definitely make this recipe again! Thanks Ree!

Change a few things like fresh mango, used 1/4 cup jalapeños peppers instead of habaneros. Also use 1/4 cup Jalapeño liquid with 1/4 water. My family loved it. Will be making this again.

I love this recipe and will definitely put it on the rotation. I used jalapeño pepper instead and cut the recipe in half since I’m alone. I will serve over rice or orzo and add broccolli or green beans.

These are just not that great.  The turkey, even with the added veg, didn’t help with the drier texture.  The meatball lacked any flavor since it wasn’t seasoned and the sauce leaves so much to be desired.  Cannot taste the mango at all and these are actually a bit spicy, so I would not try if sensitive to heat.  Will not throw out but will not try to modify or make again.

I substituted jalapeño for habanero peppers. It was really good.
