Pumpkin Sangria

Ingredients

  1. 2 tablespoons sugar
  2. 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  3. 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  4. Six 4 to 5-inch long cinnamon sticks, for garnish
  5. 6 pumpkin candies, for garnish, such as Brach’s
  6. 1 bottle white wine, chilled
  7. 3 cups mango peach juice blend or tropical juice blend, chilled, such as V-8 Splash
  8. 1 cup pumpkin spice liqueur, chilled

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine the sugar and pumpkin pie spice and mix until well combined. Transfer to a saucer. Add the maple syrup to a second saucer. Lightly dip the rims of 6 punch glasses into the maple syrup. Then dip the rims of the glasses into the spiced sugar.
  2. Insert the cinnamon sticks into the bottom of each pumpkin candy and set aside.
  3. In a pitcher, combine the wine, juice and pumpkin spice liqueur. Stir and pour into the rimmed glasses. Garnish with the pumpkin candy cinnamon sticks.
  4. Cook’s Note: If you cannot find pumpkin spice liqueur, combine 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice with 1 cup brandy in a container fitted with a lid. Shake vigorously and let sit for 1 day to infuse into the brandy.

It would seem fall fruits (apple, pear, cranberry, persimmon, quince) would be a better choice than tropical fruit juice. As an adult, I don’t care if my alcoholic beverage has a fun seasonal color.

Substituted apple cider for a more seasonal taste, and used pancake syrup, which didn’t run. Orange color, and very tasty!

Not a fan. The flavors did not really go together very well. Also, if you choose to make this, use a very thick syrup for the garnish. We didn’t and it ran down the glasses and made for sticky fingers all night. Well, that is until one of us caved and went to the store for rum and cider..

This is seriously the best thing my husband and I have ever had as an alcoholic drink. And that’s saying something. We LOVE it. It IS a little tropical with the orange colored fruit juice, but that could be easily remedied with more pumpin spice liqueur, maybe with some cinnamon liqueur… or more of the pumpkin spice seasoning. WE LOVE IT!!

It was very tropical-tasting, which I did not expect, but the spice flavor from the liqueur (I used Hiram Walker brand and the spiced rim really came through at the end. It was a beautiful orange color, too. Next time I will use less juice and maybe a little more liqueur to see if it is more sangria-like.
