BBQ Kale Chips

Ingredients

  1. 1 bunch kale, washed and dried (about 1 pound)
  2. Olive oil cooking spray, for spraying
  3. BBQ Seasoning, for sprinkling, recipe follows
  4. 1/4 cup paprika
  5. 2 tablespoons ancho chile powder
  6. 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  7. 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  8. 1 tablespoon salt
  9. 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven 275 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Remove the thick stem from the kale and discard. Tear the kale leaves into bite-size pieces. Lay the kale onto the prepared baking sheet and spray evenly with cooking spray. Bake until crispy and browned on the edges, tossing the kale halfway through, 18 to 20 minutes. Sprinkle the kale with BBQ Seasoning and serve.
  3. Mix the paprika, ancho chile, sugar, garlic powder, salt and dry mustard in a small bowl.

Soooo yummy! The BBQ seasoning is just perfect! I couldn’t stop eating them. Husband (that doesn’t normally like kale chips) woke up from working night shift and polished the rest off!

I’m not sure what’s happening here, maybe I hate kale, I’m not sure. Yes, they were crispy and the BBQ seasoning is super tasty, but I can’t get past the kale chip itself. They taste like dead leaves. From the yard. With a bitter after taste to boot! If you use the entire amount of seasoning, which again is really yummy, you might as well use it like FunDip and skip the kale all together. Not good.

*****Finally I got perfect kale chips (secret is a slow oven); have to watch baking time since it varies. The BBQ seasoning is a hit for me since it does not have all that fake flavoring as in the potato chips. Thank you!

I love BBQ potato chips, but they don’t love me. This recipe is fabulous. I’m hooked.
It takes me a lot longer than 20 minutes to dry out the chips and 1 recipe of flavoring has seasoned 3 bunches of chips and I still have leftover. That’s OK. I just stored it in a sealed container for the next time. And their will be a next time.

The seasoning is fantastic!! I put it on the kale before I cook it so that it sticks to the oil. Not too sure that I’m a fan of kale, but this seasoning is great on both chicken and steak!!!

Fabulous. I took these to a party and everyone was raving about them and asking for the recipe. Healthy eating at its finest. I’ve found the trick with the oil is less is best. I pour a little in the palm of my hand and after rubbing my hands together I massage the kale. Coats the leaves just enough. LOVED the seasoning.

Maybe we just don’t love kale, but we didn’t really enjoy these. The BBQ flavoring itself was pretty tasty, but I didn’t enjoy the kale/flavor combo.

Awesome. Cooking time may vary based on how much kale there is on the “bunch” you get as sometimes they are thinner and sometimes you need to clean up more than others.

Kale chips are tough to make… takes a while to master (I am still working on it to get the consistently crispy. THe BBQ seasoning is AWESOME. Reminds me of the Grippos brand BBQ chips… probably need a little more sugar to be exact but by far the closest I have tried! My husband & I can’t get enough! YUM!
