- 4 teaspoons cornstarch, divided
- 5 teaspoons vegetable oil, divided
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Dash white pepper
- 1 small white onion
- 2 medium tomatoes
- 12 leaves fresh basil
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic

This is a perfect end-of-summer dish for use when your tomatoes are ripe and basil ready for harvest. Quick and easy, this is one of those dishes that’s fabulous because of its simplicity. The tastes of beef, onion, tomato and basil are unique but blend really well. The only change I’d make to this recipe is to add a little more hoisin sauce. Yum!
Very easy and delicious recipe. I had a lot of basil to use before it went bad. Perfect recipe for that! I did add a squirt of Siracha Hot Chili sauce because my family likes spicy food but would have been good without it as well with the hoisin sauce. I will definitely make this again
I was also concerned that maybe this dish would lack in flavor but was wrong. This is a hit. Delicious and easy to make. I added more garlic and more basil because I love basil. I also added some of my fave BBQ sauce to the Hoisin sauce to add a kick. You will be surprised how great this dish is. A side of perfectly cooked white rice goes well with this. Make extra sauce for this as this recipe does not call for it. Give it a shot. I also used organic roma tomatoes that gave this more sweetness.
I usually avoid tomato and basil, but, I love stir-fry…so I decided to try it anyways, and it was actually quite good. I made some substitutions and used less basil than the recipe (because too much makes me nauseaous). It was like a provencal (or is it mediterranean?)stir-fry. I Recommend it.
I usually don’t have all the base ingredients. I’ve made this recipe once as directed, and once improvised with base ingredients/seasonings, and still came out delicious.
I made this meal as a surprise for my girlfriend. She loved it so much that she is still in awe of my cooking skills (that she didn’t think I had).
This was a quick and easy dish with surprisingly good flavor. I was concerned that the lack of ingredients would make this dish bland and boring but the hoison sauce and fresh basil really did the trick. Try it!
