Chocolate Chip Skillet Cookie

  4.1 – 10 reviews  • Cast Iron Skillet
This giant, crispy-on-the-edges, chewy-in-the-center cookie is perfect for parties. The ingredients are simply mixed together and baked in a skillet — no rolling, no scooping, no fuss. Serve it warm with vanilla ice cream.
Level: Easy
Total: 1 hr 10 min
Active: 20 min
Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients

  1. 1 stick (1/2 cup) unsalted butter
  2. 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  3. 3/4 cup packed dark brown sugar
  4. 2 large eggs
  5. 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  6. 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour (see Cook’s Note)
  7. 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  8. 1 teaspoon fine salt
  9. One 12-ounce bag semisweet chocolate chips or chunks (2 cups)
  10. Vanilla ice cream, for serving

Instructions

  1. Position a rack in the center of the oven and preheat to 375 degrees F. Melt the butter in a 10-inch cast iron skillet over medium heat, then set aside to cool slightly, 5 minutes.
  2. Whisk the granulated sugar, brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla together in a large bowl until smooth. Stir in the melted butter. (Do not wipe out the skillet.) Whisk the flour, baking soda and salt together in another bowl. Stir the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, mixing well with a wooden spoon until dough is homogeneous (do not overmix). Stir in the chocolate chips or chunks.
  3. Use a rubber spatula to scrape the dough into the prepared skillet, gently spreading it to the edges and smoothing the top. Bake until the top is cracked and golden, the edges are brown and the center is still soft, about 40 minutes. Cool on a wire rack for 15 minutes. Cut into wedges and serve warm with vanilla ice cream.

Cook time was also too long for me. I did 25 minutes and it came out perfect.
Shannon Maynard
Easy and tasty, but with a larger skillet (12-13 in?) definitely need to cut the time down. I ended up with biscotti, will try 20 min next time.
Shannon Wilson
Loved it. Added chopped walnuts.

Good and so easy
Joshua Baker
Good cookie recipe but 40 minutes is way too long in my oven; 20-25 minutes may have all I needed
