Microwave Corn on the Cob in the Husk

a tasty black bean recipe from the American Southwest. If you like it spicy, add hot salsa instead of the mild salsa I use. One of my favorite dishes is this one.

Ingredients

  1. 1 ear fresh corn in the husk

Instructions

  1. Rinse corn in the husk under water briefly. Wrap with a paper towel and place on a microwave-safe plate.
  2. Cook corn in the microwave until hot and cooked through, 3 to 5 minutes. Remove from the microwave and let rest for 2 minutes. Remove corn husk.
  3. Cooking time is variable. I cook 1 large ear for 5 minutes in a 1000-watt oven. You will need to adjust the time if you have small ears of corn.
  4. No need to remove the corn silk. When you take the husk off, the silk comes right along with it, and your corn is as clean as it can be. Because the corn is hot, I use a clean dish cloth to hold and remove the husk.

Made no changes, was actually amazed it worked as well as described, 3 unhusked soaked first maybe 5 minutes wrapped each in wet paper towel and cooked 10 min for all three together, they came perfect. The cutting an inch off the bottom of the cob a squeezing from the top (Point) worked as described husk silk everything came right off clean as a whistle. Will cook my corn this way from now on, it worked that well

This is the only way I cook corn on the cob. I actually find cutting the bottom end off before I cook it saves on having to hold that hot cob afterward. The husk stays on just fine. I just make sure to pull the husk back a bit and let some water run down into it before cooking. I don’t even wrap in paper towel and it is just great.

I was surprised by how well this worked. At a farmer’s corn boil party they boiled in the husk – then just fold the husk back and use it as a handle. I lived near Sugar Grove, Illinois where they have an annual corn boil that is so much fun.

This, in my opinion, is the tastiest and easiest way to cook corn on the cob. To male removing the husk ans silk easier, try cutting off thr bottom just at the bottom row of kernels before cooking. After it’s cooked, squeeze gently on the top end of the corn so that it slides out the bottom. The corn is clean, and the husk is intact with the silk inside! No-mess way to dispose of husks.

I’ve been doing this for 30 years! I strip husks down after cooking and leave a couple inches as a corn holder! It’s best when you can go from garden to plate in about 5 minutes!!! Nothing like grocery store corn!

I’ve enjoyed corn cooked in the mikywave for many years. It helps to loosen the husk where the silk emerges and get just a bit of water down inside, especially if the corn is a bit ‘aged’. After two or three minutes of cooking, try to lightly pull a bit of silk from one of the ears. If it slides out easily, its done. If the silk does not come out easily, try again after cooking another minute. To complete the cook, wrap the ear before removing the husk in a towel for two or three minutes to allow the heat to even out through out the ear. Then peel and enjoy. MT C

I love this method, this is how I’ve always cooked our corn. I cut both the ends off prior to cooking to make them super easy to husk once they’re hot. I’ve never wet the corn before microwaving though, fresh corn has moisture in the husks already so there’s no real need to. I microwave for 3.5 minutes and they turn out great.

I’ve been cooking for years and never knew you could do this. I’ve always boiled corn. I encourage everyone to try it. I brushed lots of melted butter on after it finished and wrapped in aluminum foil until ready to serve. Delish.

This has got to be the best way to cook corn on the cob! I was able to put some butter on the cob and placed the husk back around the cob. Three minutes in my microwave was perfect!
