Yield: 16 rolls

Ingredients

  1. 1 loaf frozen white bread dough, thawed in refrigerator
  2. Flour, for dusting surface
  3. 1 cup packed brown sugar
  4. 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  5. 2/3 stick butter, softened
  6. 1 stick unsalted butter, softened
  7. 1 cup powdered sugar
  8. 1/3 cup cream cheese
  9. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
  2. Roll out dough on a lightly floured surface to form a 15 by 7-inch rectangle. In a small bowl, combine brown sugar and cinnamon. Set aside. Spread 2/3 cup softened butter over dough and then evenly sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar mixture. Starting at the long edge, roll up dough as for a jelly roll. Cut roll into 16 slices and then set aside in a warm place and allow dough to rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  3. Divide rolls among 2 lightly buttered round baking pans. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden on top. While the rolls are baking, combine the icing ingredients with an electric mixer until fluffy. Frost the warm rolls with the icing. Serve warm.

I have been making this Christmas morning for years! When my daughters come home- first thing they confirm I will make. We are more health /weight conscience ..so no longer make the frosting ( but do for work gatherings!) Just sprinkle with powdered sugar. I cook often- so eyeball the measurements. I lightly spread the butter on the dough and swirl around the baking dish. Nice and crisp and not too sweet.

The frozen dough you choose is important!!! I let dough thaw overnight, in the morning – flour the surface well and roll out as much as possible. It doesn’t have to look perfect. You will be rolling , cutting and baking.

These rolls sound delicious and will be a first for me this Christmas season. With Sandra Lee, I know I can’t make a mistake.

Super easy recipe. Been making it for years. I get the frozen dough from Kroger and thaw it in a bag in the fridge starting the night before. I reduced the amount of icing based on our preference.

Two sidebars: #1 – You may not want all the icing so just add the amount desired. #2 A number of people rated the recipe poorly because the dough wouldn’t roll out. Keep in mind that since this is semi-homemade, the dough is store bought and therefore not consistent for each user. Make sure to let the dough fully thaw and sit on the counter for some time to be more malleable.

I plan on making these, but the ingredient list and the directions differ. The ingredient list says 2/3 stick of butter to spread on the dough, the directions say 2/3 cup. Which is it? Big difference, help!
