Liver and Bacon

The greatest technique to prepare delicate, luscious liver is in this manner. Even children will find this enjoyable!

Prep Time: 15 mins
Cook Time: 20 mins
Total Time: 35 mins
Servings: 6
Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

  1. 1 pound bacon
  2. 1 pound calves’ liver, sliced
  3. 1 (5.5 ounce) package pork flavored seasoning coating mix (e.g. – SHAKE-N-BAKE)

Instructions

  1. Place bacon in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium high heat until evenly brown. Transfer bacon to a plate, reserving a small amount of grease in the pan and the rest aside.
  2. Pour seasoning coating mix into a large resealable plastic bag. Place calves’ liver in bag one slice at a time; seal, and toss to coat.
  3. Cook liver in bacon grease over medium high heat, turning occasionally to brown both sides. Depending on the size of your skillet you may need to work in batches and add more bacon grease. Liver is done when juices run clear. Return bacon to the skillet during the last 2 minutes of cooking to warm through. Serve hot with your favorite side dish.

I liked this recipe because it was simple quick and tasty with the bacon grease. I just used flour and a bit of salt so I could give it to my dog as well as myself One additional note I did soak the liver in buttermilk for 24 hours prior to cooking

This recipe is quite good but even though I marinated the beef liver for 48 hours, there was still a slight “funny taste/smell” to some of it. This is the one thing my wife hates about liver; so i am looking for a solution. Note: this recipe didn’t require marinating in milk (that’s from another recipe); but i did make some changes. I added Poutine gravy; red bell pepper; onions and mushrooms slathered over the liver, on top of the bacon. All in all, this was a delicious, restaurant-quality meal for two!

I wanted to try a different kind of meat, so I purchased liver. This recipe gave that liver appeal. I made it twice already and will continue to make it.

Since I used turkey bacon I added Ghee and Coconut oil, bread it with Shredded coconut with spices (Italian seasoning, salt, bit of pepper, turmeric and shake it keep adding until gets color and taste in bag as desired, then add the liver) ENJOY! 🙂 it was so delicious my 4 yr old eat it all.

I read how liver is high in choline and other essential nutrients but never tried making it. This recipe is fantastic! I also didn’t have shake-n-bake so I used seasoned flour like another reviewer suggested and it was perfect!

Phenomenal! I didn’t have the seasoning, so I dredged in flour with some garlic salt. Then I added chopped onions to the bacon grease. Sooo good. Best liver ever.

Made it with very fresh pork liver but followed the recipe exactly as per the instructions. Boy howdy was it good!! Made rice and Pork and Beans to go with it with some buttermilk biscuits. My family inhaled it in very short order while protesting that they did not like liver. Shut up and eat. It has actually been requested by one of the anti liver kids. Good stuff.

This was really good! I did add onions to the bacon grease after taking out the bacon but otherwise followed the recipe. We were not sure we even liked liver prior to this. Would definitely give it a try!

The whole family loved this recipe! My kids raved about how good it was & how tender it was. It was then that I told them it was liver. They didnt believe me! I ran out of bacon grease at the end, so added some olive oil. I also threw in some sliced onion & cover the skillet while I cooked it. Awsome!

Very nice and easy to put together. I used baby beef liver and threw in some sauteed onions.
