Wonderful recipe! I was looking for a perfect apple crisp recipe and hit the jackpot on this one! Thank you!
This was very, very good.
I have made this several times and it always is the star of the show!! My church family says it reminds them of the old time apple crisp that their Moms/Grandmothers used to make. I won’t make another recipe!! Thanks Fern!!
I just made this with apples & pears and it’s really good (I Already tried it ) I’m VERY excited to share it ☺️
Made this and it does not disappoint!!! Sooo good, the brown sugar just puts it over the top. Thank you so much!
Incredibly delicious!! Thank you Fern, you just made me the apple crisp queen!
It reminded me of the old recipe I once had. Yummy!!!
Looks delicious! Thanks for the recipe!
Excellent! Husband loved it!
Followed the recipe exactly except added only 1/4 cup sugar to the apples and 1cup sugar to the topping. This came out incredible and I absolutely will use the recipe again. Great with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Only reason for 4 stars is my change to the recipe. It would definitely be too sweet otherwise and I’m glad I listened to other’s reviews.
This recipe results in an overwhelmingly sweet apple crisp. I followed the directions exactly. It didn’t say to peel the apples, so I didn’t. The peel helped remind us this dessert contained apples! The brown sugar can be cut way down here. I would change this recipe and add no more than two tablespoons to the apples, and no more than 3/4 cup to the topping…I would also reduce the rest of the topping ingredients across the board by half. The apple to topping ratio is way off. I think with these changes this recipe has potential. (I would also suggest peeling the apples if it’s your preference)
It was delicious even though I totally messed it up! I forgot to add the butter to the topping mix until after I had put it in the pan so I placed slices of butter on top instead. The topping was less crumbly but still tasty. I made mine with honeycrisp apples & did not peel them. I also halved the recipe & made it in an air fryer.
WOW, this is so delicious! God bless you for sharing a family recipe. I used granny smith apples and melted the butter that gets mixed with those. I had two extra cups of apples and the amount of crisp topping the recipe yielded easily covered it all nicely. The only issue to report is that it takes 30-35 minutes to prep, not 15 as stated. We served it with vanilla bean ice cream and salted bourbon caramel topping. A huge hit! Thanks!
The topping on this is the best I’ve had, but I did cut the sugar in half. I would suggest a little lemon juice over the apples if they are really sweet, otherwise, it’s great. I’ve made it twice in 2 weeks, a quick and easy dessert. I’ll be using the topping on other things as well.
I made this recipe yesterday and my goodness, it was amazing! I followed the recipe, but I forgot to put butter on top of the apples, so I added some on top of the crust, best mistake ever! I recommend put some THIN pieces of butter on top. This recipe is quite cinnamon-y so if you don’t like that, you might want to cut back a little bit. I also added a little lemon juice to the apples and that was awesome. 8×12 glass dish, it made plenty. 10/10 would bake again!!!
Fern, thank YOU for the best apple crisp recipe! Didn’t change a thing and it is simply perfection! Anyone looking for healthy should look somewhere else. This is a dessert our grandmother’s made that passed down their recipes. The smell in the kitchen is delightful.
I followed a couple of the other suggestions, using half the sugar in each portion I also didn’t bother with the butter pieces on the apples. I would say it was PERFECT with those changes (and vanilla bean ice cream, of course)! Great flavor, not too sweet!
The recipe is very forgiving around not using exact ingredients. We added frozen cranberries and blueberries to the apples (about 30% by volume) and used 20% less sugar and it came out quite well.
Yummy but too sweet. Would suggest reducing the sugar if you prefer the apple and cinnamon taste over sugar. Otherwise, makes an awesome crust!
The whole family gave it a five star rating and it was super easy to make
This is a great recipe!
