Ingredients

  1. 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  2. 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  3. Pinch salt
  4. 1 clove garlic, crushed
  5. 2 tablespoons olive oil
  6. 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  7. 1 white onion, thinly sliced
  8. 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  9. Half 8-ounce can chopped stewed tomatoes
  10. 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  11. Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  12. Sugar
  13. 2 hot dog buns
  14. 2 cooked hot dogs
  15. 1 cup shredded mozzarella
  16. Kettle potato chips, crushed

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the mayonnaise, lemon juice, salt and crushed garlic, and set aside in the refrigerator until ready to use.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a skillet set over medium heat and saute the minced garlic, onions and bell peppers. Add the tomatoes and oregano, stir and simmer until thickened, about 5 minutes. Add salt, pepper and sugar to taste (just a bit of sugar for a hint of sweetness).
  3. Spread some of the mayonnaise mixture in the buns and place a hot dog in each. Then top the dogs with the tomato mixture, shredded cheese and some crushed chips to finish. Serve hot.
