Ingredients

  1. Olive oil
  2. 2 cups marinara sauce
  3. 1/3 cup mascarpone cheese
  4. 1/4 cup chopped fresh Italian parsley leaves
  5. 2 teaspoons chopped fresh thyme leaves
  6. 1 pound purchased cheese tortellini
  7. 2 ounces thinly sliced smoked mozzarella
  8. 1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly oil an 8 by 8 by 2-inch baking dish.
  2. Whisk the sauce, mascarpone cheese, parsley and thyme in a large bowl to blend. Cook the tortellini in a large pot of boiling salted water until just tender, about 2 minutes. Drain. Add the tortellini to the sauce and toss to coat. Transfer the tortellini mixture to the prepared baking dish. Top the mixture with the smoked mozzarella and Parmesan. Cover and bake until the sauce bubbles and the cheeses on top melt, about 30 minutes.

this is so popular that my kids call the “crack pasta”!

Great recipe. I use homemade sauce with Italian sausage and put it under the broiler a couple of minutes at the end. Definitely bookmarked.

This is really good. I’ve made it many times but never reviewed. I use Rao’s sauce and the Rana tortellini. It’s really quick and easy without hard cleanup.

Awesome! Delicious! This is my go-to for potlucks, help-a-neighbor-out meals, or just a comforting dinner for family and friends. My only issue is it’s hard to find smoked mozzarella where I live, so have to improvise with smoked provolone or regular mozzarella if all else fails. I used smoked gouda once, but (eww) not so good. I like that it’s meatless, so don’t add meat to the sauce, but will serve sausage on the side.

Totally delicious! I bought the large package of tortellini from Costco, and used a full jar of Rao’s marinara sauce—for the perfect ratio. Thank you, Giada!

Family favorite and very filling. Super easy to make with simple ingredients.

This was really good! I’ve wanted to try one of Giada’s recipes and this was a great one to start with. I used Silver Palate marinara and weight watchers smoked mozzarella cheese sticks. So, two pluses: great Italian food and a little bit of lightness.

I make EVERY Christmas and its the favorite!

I have made this a few times years ago exactly as written except used regular sliced mozzarella. If i wanted to add beef would i add 1/2 lb? Thought I would brown it and add to sauce and then toss tortellini in sauce and put in pan and cover with the sliced mozzarella and Parmesan. Sound correct? Thanks

Sooo good!
