To the heart broken guy from Buffalo, who was bummed out over Food Network’s alledged Texas Hot sauce, the recipe given on wegottaeat looks like a reduced quantity version my Dad had. My Dad’s was for mega version. Over the years we tried making smaller batches that never quite hit the mega version. I’ve made the mega versions when a crowd is coming. Always a crowd pleaser.:-)
The Food Network’s recipe, whatever it is could only be a 3, as AJ’S is a 12 on a scale of 12.
I was excited when I found this recipe, thinking this is the texas hot dog sauce that I loved growing up in Buffalo, NY. However, the directions talk about bread crumbs, but the ingredients do not list breadcrumbs? Also, the directions seeem incorrect. Does anyone proofread these?
This is very, very good.
I only used 3 tsps. of chili powder and increased to 6 tlbs. of paprika. This is very close to the taste of the coney sauce used in Hazelton, PA.

WOW! That recipe doesn’t make any sense. I believe I deciphered it and it should go as follows:
1 1/4 pounds ground beef
1/2 onion
3/4 teaspoon garlic salt
1 1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 1/2 ounce tomato paste
8 cups water
3 1/2 teaspoon paprika
6 teaspoon chili powder
Brown ground beef and drain any fat. Add onion and sautee until onions are soft and pick up a little color. Add remaining ingredients. Simmer for 1 hour. I tried it this way and got a very nice sauce. Uncover for the last 10 minutes of cooking for a thicker sauce.
