Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

  1. 1 1/2 cups cranberries, fresh or frozen
  2. 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  3. One 3-inch strip orange peel
  4. 4 cups vodka
  5. 8 ounces very cold ginger beer
  6. 6 ounces cranberry vodka
  7. Few squeezes fresh lime juice
  8. 1/2 orange, thinly sliced
  9. Crushed ice
  10. Sugared Cranberries, skewered, recipe follows
  11. 1 cup granulated sugar
  12. 2 cups cranberries, fresh or frozen
  13. 2 cups superfine sugar

Instructions

  1. For the cranberry vodka: Combine the cranberries, sugar, orange peel and 1/4 cup water in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil over high heat. Cook until the cranberries soften and pop, about 5 minutes.
  2. Pour the vodka into a large heatproof jar, then add the cranberry mixture. Let sit at room temperature for at least 3 days or up to 1 week. Strain and chill in the refrigerator before using.
  3. For the cranberry-orange mule: Mix together the ginger beer, cranberry vodka, lime juice and orange slices in a pitcher. Serve over crushed ice and garnish with skewers of Sugared Cranberries.
  4. Combine the granulated sugar and 1 cup water in a saucepan. Bring to a boil and cook until the sugar is dissolved. Add the cranberries and weight with a plate to submerge. Cover the pot and refrigerate for at least 8 hours and up to 48 hours. Strain the cranberries, reserving the syrup. (Refrigerate leftover syrup in an airtight container for up to 1 month.)
  5. Spread the superfine sugar on a baking sheet and toss the cranberries in the sugar. Refrigerate on the baking sheet, uncovered, for 1 hour. Toss again in the sugar before transferring to an airtight container. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Made this last year and looked it up again for the holidays.  This mule is an amazing drink!  So delicious.

Simple, elegant and delicious. You will need to plan ahead to make this drink, but it is worth it.

First things first. If making your own cranberry vodka it has to sit for at least three days. Making it on thanksgiving did me no good.

However, I’m finally trying it and I must say it’s rather tasty and refreshing. I didn’t do the sugared cranberries. Did load up with several orange slices, and added more and squeezed the last few I added. It’s good. I’d serve at a party.

Tried this during Thanksgiving. Maybe it was just me but the instructions were a bit confusing…..at the beginning it called for 4 cups of vodka but then for the actual pitcher of mules it states 6oz of cran-vodka which didn’t make sense.  I had ALOT of cran-vodka leftover (which is not a bad thing…..I’m drinking some right now).  The cocktail itself was much too strong for my liking and probably will not try it again.  I have made Bobby’s holiday sangria (which by the way is awesome) in the past and will probably stick with that next time.

Didn’t detect cranberry or orange in this drink, 2 1/2 oz is not a lot of liquid for a serving;perhaps adding 2 oz of cranberry juice may help ? Flavor profile was tasting ginger beer only

Made vodka as directed. Beautiful color! Mixed using a seasonal spiced ginger beer.  The best cranberry sauce we served this year.

On the show, Bobby cautioned that the when making the vodka, don’t let the cranberries pop as this releases the pectin and then you’ll have cranberry syrup. This is a great idea for a holiday cocktail!
