Ingredients

  1. 12 whole cloves
  2. 10 peppercorns, cracked
  3. 4 cinnamon sticks
  4. 2 star anise buds
  5. 2 bottles dry, fruity red wine, such as Shiraz or Malbec
  6. 1/2 cup honey
  7. 2 lemons, zest removed with a peeler and juiced
  8. 2 oranges, zest removed with a peeler and juiced
  9. 1/2 cup brandy

Instructions

  1. Begin by placing the cloves, peppercorns, cinnamon and star anise into a large piece of cheesecloth. Make a pouch and tie it with kitchen twine.
  2. In a large nonreactive pot over medium heat, add the wine, honey, lemon zest and juice, orange zest and juice and the cheesecloth of spices and bring to a simmer (be sure not to bring to a boil). Simmer for 30 minutes, and then add the brandy.
  3. When ready to serve, remove the cheesecloth of spices and ladle into warm mugs.

Like the first review, just watched this episode and she takes a sip from the ladle she is going to serve with. Gross, and stop mixing everything with your hands, it’s very unappetizing. Use a spoon or gloves, if you worked in a restaurant, you would be be in trouble with the health department.

What was the sparkling white wine she tried? That’s my wine of choice and I missed the brand.

Yet another winner! This one beats my Wife’s sangria which we serve during the holidays. Well now we have two favorites! THANKS NANCY!

“Then she takes a sip with the mulled wine dipper and sets it back down to serve the others without washing it” I personally wouldn’t care too much if Nancy Fuller was my friend or family member. Thats how close I am with the people in my life. Cool recipe. Will have to try.
